Costa Rica which means Rich Coast and they celebrates its Independence day on 15 September every year. But how they got the freedom and what is the History of Costa Rica Independence Day. History of Costa Rica Independence Day – 15 September Freedom from Spain
- The official name is the Republic of Costa Rica – in Spanish, it means República de Costa Rica.
- Coast Rica is a country in Central America.
- The population around in this country is 4.9 Million.
- San Jose is the capital of Costa Rica with 300,000 residents which makes it the largest city.
- The country spent nearly 6.9% of its budget in compare of the global average of 4.4%.
Now let’s talk about the history of Coast Rica Independence Day. It tends to say that like the rest of Central America, Costa Rica never had to fight for its freedom from Spain.
On 15th of September 1821, when El Salvador with other Six states got freedom from Spanish Rulers, Costa Rica was also one of the countries who sign the Declaration of Independence with Spain.
After getting defeated by the Mexican Army in the war of Independence (1810-21), Spanish empire in the presence of Authority of Guatemala declared the Independence to all of the Central America.
How People Celebrate the Independence day in Costa Rica
Costa Rica people know how to handle and enjoy every moment. The celebration takes place in all over the Country and its cities, which begins from 14th September.
People make home cooked Lanterns or Faroles, and at evening they light them while singing the National Anthem of Costa Rica. The sing the national anthem while cruising the streets as part of Desfile de Faroles which means – Lantern Parade.
